S01E12 - Kakheti Highlands: Season's closure on a highlight
Country

Test

We visit Uplistsikhe (“the Lord’s Fortress”), an ancient rock-carved town that once hosted 20’000 people before Christianity arrived in Georgia. Mtskheta (the "Holy City") is the former capital and Georgian birthplace of Christianity, with many gorgeous churches including the monastery of Jvari, an almost unchanged and rare case of Early Medieval Georgian church.

Returning from the Georgian vineyards, we can't resist the temptation of one last off-road detour through the Kakheti highlands, the southern deserted area close to Azerbaijan. Beautiful scenery and landscapes, pastures as far as the eye can see, rocks in shades of red, yellow and green - simply marvellous. Far through these highlands is David Gareja, a Georgian Orthodox monastery complex with hundreds of cells, churches, chapels, refectories, and living quarters hollowed out of the rock face.

This episode concludes Season 1 from Switzerland to Georgia… we hope you enjoyed the series and look forward to entertaining you soon with more exciting stories.
